The High Tatras
Arrived on a bus from Levoca to Tatranka Lomnica, my knee is fucked, to much walking in Slovensky Raj. All the penzions were full in town so jumped on the electric train to Stary Smokivec, its hard to pronounce these crazy names, lucky the bus drivers are used to it. The train was packed full, I did not need to hang on as I couldn't fall over. Walked around and found an ok penzion room with breakfast for 500 crowns. Mucked about town for the day, then the next day headed up the hill, in my sandals and shorts... more stares from serious hikers. My knee was a little better so was going to do a big loop, but the snow defeated my sandals so had to turn back, made it up to 2000m though. The tatras are only low in altitude, but they look huge and have mountains like shapes similar to the southern alps with Alpine passes etc. Walked for about 5 hrs before bailing off the mountain. Its was pretty average weather, misty and rainy with fuck all views. Will head to Bratislava tomorrow.
