Tropical Tioman Island

Missioned out of Singapore across the causeway, cleared immigrations with no hassles. Just hop off the bus at each checkpoint get stamped through and then jump back on the bus on the other side and carry on. We then jumped on a bus to Mersing and then a ferry out to the island, all in all took about 14 hours but nothing clicked i.e waiting for a bus for 2 hours and waiting for a slow ferry, the fast boat is a launch with 3 x 200hp motors on it and it was really choppy so gave that a miss.

Got to Tioman and got a couple of chalets right on the beach, staying at ABC with is the laid back of the two main tourist spots. Costing 20 Ringets a night per hut (1 NZ is 2.2 RM). Got up the next day and ran into a Cheq couple I spent some time with on Ko Phanyan in Thailand. at the Full moon party, so was pretty random.

Tioman is pretty nice beach is a bit skinny but its nice and long and lined with coconut trees and the weather is great once you get used to the heat. The whole interior of the Island is jungle so there is some nice walks. Loads of monitor lizards about have to watch your step, I almost stood on a 2m monster the other day. A few long tailed Marques (monkeys) and tree squirrels as well, have also seen a couple of different snakes to.

The snorkeling here is pretty good some nice coral gardens right out in front of our huts. Prob go out for another look after I've Finished typing this. Have seen a couple of green turtles, some blue spotted stingrays and heaps of reef fish. Nemos (clownfish) are everywhere. Lots of fire corals as well.

Some good wharfs for doing bombs off as well, here's Hayden and I doing a back flip and a staple.

Oh and did I mention the Island is duty free? So beer is fairly cheap (Carlsberg) and you can go to the Chinese duty free shops in the main town to get cheap spirits and wine. We have our fave beach bars and restaurants as well.

We are moving onwards tomorrow heading up the east coast to the Perentians another Island group but in the North of Malaysia. Probably stay a night in Kuantan and then Kota Bharu.
