Caught a boat across the Ton Sapp lake from Seam Reap, had to get up early though, 5:30am, boat left at 7am but had to take a Tuk Tuk to the wharf. Am over touts ignore them now, same with beggars.
The boat ride was good met an English dude and had a good yarn. James has headed to the beach so I'm on my own. The boat traveled through loads of small villages on the lake, all floating or on huge stilts. Everyone there gets round on little boats and most of them are fisher people. All the little kids wave at the boat as we passed by. Took 6 hours to reach Battanbang.
Got met by the usual tout and driver wall at the wharf, picked one with free transport and went there, shared a room with English guy Paul. Next day hired a driver and another bike and went on a tour around the countryside. Stopped at a local gas station on the way and brought a litre of gas, it came in a bottle premeasured :D. Went up a lot of small dirt roads through tiny villages. Then onto Our first stop a Wat on a hill top. Visited some grisly sites there, a prison and killing caves where people were executed during the Pol Pot Regime. The views from the temple were nice and there was a couple of big guns left over from when the Vietnamese fought with the Khmer Rouge. After that we visited some old Kymer ruins on a hilltop, also had some nice views. Then a tree in a temple complex with loads of big fruit bats. We then visited a coutry house and tried out some different fruits and some rice wine. Then it pissed down and the dirt road turned to mud. Was fun though. We made it to the rail tracks safely and caught a bamboo train back to town, was a laugh all it is a bamboo slat platform 2m by 1.5m on two axels. When meating another bamboo train who ever has the least wieght shifts there train off the tracks, as we had 2 motorbikes we never had to. All in all was a great day out.
That night we played some pool and had dinner with a group of varied nationalities.
Then in the morning caught a bus to Phanom Penh.
