Phnom Penh

Bus 5 hours from Battambang was ok, aircon worked and I could fit my knees in. Stayed lakeside in the capital, its a backpacker ghetto, with travel services, currency exchange, bookshops, western food, bars, touts and all that goes with servicing us. Its all good though like a small Khao San Rd. Drank alot of beer, there are many to sample. Ankor, Anchor, Bayon, Beer Lao, Chaing, Crown, Klang, Singa, Tiger. Many are foriegn beer but ive been trying them all as they are the same price alot of the time. Usually between 50c and a dollar US. Been out on the town a couple of times once with a group I met at our guesthouse and the other with James and Paul and another dude. Both times we ended up at the Heart of Darkness a pub/club in the city centre. Was a blast both nights.

Sharing a room with an English guy Paul same dude I met in Siem Reap, he'd never fired a gun before so we went out to a shooting range and had a jam. Got a magazine each for an AK and had a go, full auto all the way, tried to 3 shot burst if you squeeze to long it turns in a 6 shot burst pretty quickly, was fun. Had a go on a .22 pistol as well, cause all the other pistols were broken. Got offered a grenade for $30 US, $100 shots of machine gun for $100 US and a rocket launcher for $200 US, but passed as I didnt quite trust the safety, and dont want to spend that
much.

Visited S-21 and the killing fields with James, fairly depressing but interesting at the smae time. S-21 is where they held and tourtured alot of people during the Khymer Rouge regieme. Only 3 people left there alive, alot were sent to the killing fields at Chong Ek to be executed and were buried in mass graves there. There is a memorial there with many skulls of the dead inside it. S-21 is set up as a museum of sorts and is still set up like it was when it held so many Cambodians.

Also visited the national muesuem but was fairly hungover so didnt really appeciate all the statues and pots.

When it was finally time to go, Paul headed into Vietnam to Saigon, I headed to the Beach (Sihanokville) and James stayed in Phnom Penh.
