Four Thousand Islands

Was rad, lived up to my expectations, stayed on Don Khong for the first 3 nights, was really chilled, Dave and I did a cycle round part of the Island which is situated in the far South of Laos on the Cambodian border, smack in the middle of the mighty Mekong river which flows from Tibetan Plateau all the way down to the Delta in Vietnam where it flows into the South China Sea. Was a nice cycle on one geared beach cruisers. Roads were flat and there was fuck all traffic. Brought a litre of local beverage for .75 cents US. Lao Lao, a rice whiskey. Lets just say I cant remember from 7pm that night till the next morning. Spent the next couple of days recovering.

After chilling for a couple of days we caught a boat down to Don Det which is more of a backpacker ghetto, really chilled out, with loads of guesthouses/ bungalows build out over hanging the water, spent much time in hammocks, drinking Beer laos and eating. Spent one day there sightseeing. Had an impressive set of rapids that caused the Mekong to drop a few metres in over a short distance. Got fairly sick on my last day there so had to postpone leaving till the next day. Seem to be alright now. All up spent 7 nights down on the Islands and it was great.

Took a boat/ truck/ tuk tuk combo back to Pakse. Spent the day there then caught an overnight bus to Vientiane, Laos capital city of 200,000 people.

yer, hammocks and relaxing.
