Guangzhou

Sleeper bus is a Chinese thing, a bus with beds on it instead of seats, and they pack as many beds as possible onto that bus, bus travels overnight to destination and everyone sleeps. It was ok, a bit cramped for me, beds are about 5"10 long and I'm about 6"3 so had to sleep in the fetal position, took a pill and slept ok, made sure I belted myself in though as I was on the top bunk and you tend to roll a bit when the bus corners. Trip took about 12 hrs but was from 9pm to 9am so slept through most of it.

Once in Guangzhou had no idea where the hell I was so just walked around till I found a landmark, then used my trusty LP to find the nearest subway and then cruised underground to one of the only hostels in town 50 Y (60Y is $10 Aussie), expensive compared to Yunnan but apparently the norm for the east coast, glad I'm not doing it this trip.

Found Guangzhou to be a nice enough city, not alot to do though, did a big wander around town which is not small at around 3.2 million, has a good subway system which helps. Visited the main park in town and had to pay to get in... cheers again china. Checked out some markets, ate some food, all in all fairly uneventfully, didn't even take many pictures.

That night got a little more exiting when I went looking for a Internet place and ended up finding a night market that lead into a big square of stores, tiny cubbyhole ones like the rest of Asia, bought a few long sleeve shirts, and then had a nice late dinner, then realised while eating I had no idea where I was and had no map, did not know the name of the place I was staying or even the suburb name, sure just walk back the way you came Ben, yeah right its a maze of stores and people. I wouldn't even be able to find the stall I brought my shirts. Found a net cafe after dinner and the world web was still fuckin slow, almost got a good map of town when my hour ran out..... walked around for 30 mins before I found a subway station, got down into the station and heard the last train was on its way.... arrrr, managed to get a token and make it aboard and back to familiar territory, fun fun, usually I always get my hostels card as this happened a few times in Vietnam. A good cop out is to give the card to the taxi driver and say take me here.

The next day decided to bail as there was nothing much happening in town so decided to make a side trip to Macau and cross to Hong Kong from there.
