Luxor

Had a good time in luxor with Matthew and James, went across the Nile and hired a taxi for the day and Visited the major sites, Valley of the kings, a large dry dusty valley with many tombs dug into the hillside which are designed to resemble the underworld, a long tunnel leading down into either an antechamber or a series of halls and at the end the burial chamber, the tunnels, halls and chambers have great colourful hieroglyphs and carvings on them well preserved as they underground and out of the elements. Could not take photos inside though. From there we walked out of the valley and up over the ridge to another temple (the Roman looking one in the photos), wicked view of the surrounding area, the valley, the Nile and other ruins. Visited Deir al-Bahri also know as hot chicken soup (Hatshepsut) which cut into the cliff and looks more roman to me than Egyptian. Then off to Habu temple which was pretty cool some really nice reliefs with deep carving and some colour. one of my favorite temples. Then Valley of the Queens which is similar to valley of the Kings just smaller. On the way back visted the colossi of Memnon twin 18m high statues.

The next day we visted Luxor temple and Karnak temple which were both sweet, Karnak has a large sprawling complex with an avenue of small Sphinxs and a couple of obelisks with a massive hall of giant coloms. checked out Luxor from the road to avoid entrance fees which put a large dent in the budget once you have visited a few sites, even with the fake student id.

Had a few good feeds and drank some beers as well.
