Vilnius, Lithuania

Had a 10 hour overnight bus ride from Warsaw, was ok apart from finding out where the bus left from, brought the ticket at the train station then found out it was a bus that left from the train station which is a giant maze. Lots more queing and success. The road was bumpy but still managed a decent sleep. Met an English couple on arriving in Vilinus and ended up having a random pancake breakfast with them after finding out we had to turn our clocks an hour back. Ended up sharing a room with Matthew and Sarah and checked out the sights of Vilnius and had a few beers and meals with them, was cool to have some company. Checked out the KGB museum which charted the history of Lithuania from 1943, which was not a fun period of history for them, annexed by Russia, then by the Nazis, then by Russia again, deportation and genocide the norm. Makes you realise how lucky we were in little old NZ.

Did a day trip out to Tarkai a small town just out of Vilnius, had a very pretty reconstucted castle set on small island on a lake linked by a bridge. Was a nice day out.
