Klaipeda and the Curonian Spit

Bus from Vilnius, another 4hrs on public transport. Checked into a hostel right next to the bus station, all good, did a wander through town and took a ferry over to the spit. Had a lay down on a beach for a while water temp of 18 degrees so not quite warm enough for me. The next day got up early and had a good look around on the spit, nice landscape of pine trees and sanddunes. Very long and thin, half of the spit is in Lithuania and the other half is in Kaliningrad, Russia. Had a kip on a beach for a while and did a nice hike up the highest dune which is about 60m high. That night went out with two Finns and a German, Russia was playing the Netherlands in Euro 2008(soccor), Russia won the game so the streets were full of Russian fans, the police were out and about as well, ended up in a Russian nightclub but bailed early as I wanted to leave before lunch time so needed sleep.

Off to the hill of crosses and then Riga, Latvia next.
